intelligent 3D transit system skyshuttle

Unexpectedly, a light rail can be this adorable! It’s the SkyShuttle in Chongqing, China. With only two carriages and a short,

chubby appearance, it looks so silly and cute that locals affectionately call it the "Baby Caterpillar."

The SkyShuttle has two carriages with a full capacity of 140 passengers. Each carriage stands 3.4 meters tall, 2.4 meters wide,

and 8.3 meters long, while the entire route spans 15.4 kilometers. Its maximum designed speed is 80 km/h, though the actual

operating speed is around 60 km/h. However, when fully loaded, the speed drops to one-third of the maximum, approximately

20 km/h.

The SkyShuttle is not only the world’s first but also an independent, patented intelligent 3D transit system, boasting over 3,000 patents.

It was developed by BYD over seven years.

Its advantages include no road occupancy, fully autonomous operation, eco-friendly electric power, minimal vibration and noise, and an

ultra-smooth ride that feels like gliding effortlessly on flat ground.
